Lanarkshire MSP, Graham Simpson, visited East Kilbride Housing Association to hear about their recent work in the local community.
He met Andy Young, Chief Executive of EKHA, and other members of the senior management team at their head office in the town.
The pair discussed the challenges facing the group as we move into the recovery phase of the pandemic but also the lasting damage caused by Covid19 including, the rise in rent arrears and dealing with an increase in reports of anti-social behaviour.
The housing association, which has been in operation since 1994, now have almost 600 properties across East Kilbride and a number of additional sites have been identified as potential areas for development soon.
Mr Simpson was also able to visit Redwood Crescent where he saw 22 new EKHA properties. The selection of new build houses and flats are due to be handed over to the tenants in the next week.
Graham Simpson, MSP for Central Scotland said: “I have met East Kilbride Housing Association a number of times over the years but not since the start of the pandemic.
“They have risen to the challenges that it presented and developed new ways of working. They are looking to develop an app for tenants, which would be a good thing.
“Most impressively, they are cracking on with a programme of building and it was great to be able to see some of their new stock, which will become great homes for local people.”
