The Scottish Conservatives have demanded that the SNP Government stop leaving businesses in the dark and provide answers about their vaccine passport extension plans.
The Party has submitted an Urgent Question to the Scottish Parliament seeking clarity on which businesses and sectors are under consideration for an extension of the scheme.
In the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday, and again on BBC Good Morning Scotland on Wednesday, Deputy First Minister John Swinney gave “pitiful” answers with the “bare minimum” of detail about major changes that may take place as early as next week.
Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP for Central Scotland, Graham Simpson, has said the SNP are “treating the public and businesses with contempt” by warning that an expansion of the scheme is imminent yet withholding “the most basic details.”
The Party has also called for more information on what other restrictions the SNP are considering bringing into force, including how long they intend to prolong the use of face masks in schools, against the advice of their group of education experts.
Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP Graham Simpson said: “The SNP must come clean and provide the most basic details about what additional restrictions they are considering introducing next week.
“It’s obvious that the government knows what options are on the table, so why won’t they let the businesses who could be affected know now?
“John Swinney dodged questions in the Scottish Parliament and his pitiful answers on the radio were no better.
“The SNP are treating the public and businesses with contempt by providing the bare minimum of information about what they are planning.
“The uncertainty this vacuum is creating is deeply harmful to our economy. Businesses deserve answers from the SNP, not this stage-managed smoke-and-mirrors act.
“Businesses in Scotland were barely consulted when this scheme was first created and it’s clear the SNP are still treating them as an afterthought now.”
