Tory MSP Graham Simpson has commenced a campaign to save the 31 bus service between East Kilbride and Glasgow.
First Glasgow has axed the 31 bus which is the only bus serving Stewartfield in East Kilbride. It will now only run between Carmunnock and Glasgow.
Scottish Conservative shadow local government minister Graham Simpson said:
“The 31 bus is a lifeline service for East Kilbride residents and serves a substantial community.
“Bus services are vital for combating loneliness and ensuring elderly and vulnerable can get about easily. It’s also some residents only means to getting to work.
“These proposals were ditched before. Several years ago we fought to save the 31 and we must do so again. Using the excuse of coronavirus shouldn't be used to stop this vital bus route.
“I’ve started a petition to send a message - like we did last time - that we want this bus to stay.
“Stewartfield needs a bus service, it's as simple as that.
