MSP Graham Simpson visited a group recently set up for Down’s Syndrome children and their families.
Little Guys and Dolls meets at Shotts Scout Hall once on the second Saturday of every month. And even though it has just had only its second session, it is attracting families from as far away as Glasgow.
Central Scotland MSP Mr Simpson said: “It’s clear there is a need for this. Everyone who turned up had a great time, including myself.
“The group was launched by Heather McCloy, who has Down’s Syndrome child and has been awarded money from the Big Lottery Fund to get things going. She is doing a great job already. It gives youngsters the chance to mix and have some fun while parents and carers can also join in, as well as having meeting up with others to share experiences.
“I was told the nearest similar group is in Renfrewshire, which is a bit of a trek, so I applaud Heather for making the effort to get this started.”
