Yesterday, Graham Simpson MSP called for recall powers at Holyrood after the Michael Matheson scandal. During Conservative Party Business, a motion was lodged calling for Michael Matheson to resign as an MSP for misusing taxpayers' money and making misleading statements.
Graham Simpson MSP said: "Michael Matheson would have been sacked in any other line of work and should resign.
"He can't be removed from parliament because we don't have a recall process. I aim to fix that.
"Michael Matheson is lucky that he does not sit in the UK Parliament because if he did- election aside- he could be facing a recall process. That would no doubt see the end of his political career. Yet he faces no such process here because we don't have one.
"I believe this legislative deficit needs to be fixed and that is why I am bringing forward a members' bill which, if supported, will do just that. I will outline the details of my proposals in the next few weeks."
