Yesterday, Graham Simpson MSP asked a Topical Question about bonuses at Scottish Water. This followed reports that executives at Scottish Water have received massive bonuses, even though public sector pay policy reportedly prohibits this.
Acting Minister for Climate Action, Alisdair Allan, justified a long-standing exemption from public sector pay policy for Scottish Water because of their operating model and the need to retain staff in competition with the private sector. This arrangement has been in place since 2011.
Scottish Conservative MSP Graham Simpson said: “Out-of-touch SNP ministers just don’t get it when it comes to the anger felt by the public over these massive bonuses.
“Hard-pressed Scots are set to be hit with inflation-busting increases in their water bills in the coming weeks yet are having to watch on as top bosses continue to be handsomely rewarded.
“SNP ministers presided over huge bonuses at Ferguson Marine and are clearly content with allowing a similar culture to occur at Scottish Water.
“While householders get punished with hikes in their bills, top bosses are raking in ever bigger pay packets.”
Scottish Water bosses have been raking in massive bonuses. Meanwhile staff are in dispute and we’re all going to get inflation-busting bill rises. The government doesn’t get it."
