At Public Audit Committee today, NHS Chief Executive Caroline Lamb revealed that various treatments of "limited clinical value" are at risk. Graham Simpson MSP questioned her about the recommendations in Audit Scotland's NHS in Scotland 2024 report.
That report suggested that the Scottish Government and NHS boards should jointly identify areas of limited clinical value and consider how services can be provided more efficiently or withdrawn.
Graham Simpson MSP said: "The Scottish Government is looking at things of 'limited clinical value'. That possibly includes varicose veins treatment, which is being considered.
"A draft list of those medicines and procedures of 'limited clinical value' has been promised by Caroline Lamb. We shall have to see what it says."
