MSP for Central Scotland, Graham Simpson has highlighted the impact of SNP cuts to council budgets. South Lanarkshire council could have to make savings of up to £20 million with a potentially damaging impact on local services and the local area.
Graham Simpson MSP said: "This is the real impact of SNP cuts. In education, heads and deputy heads could have to cut classes, which would damage any aspirations of closing the poverty-related attainment gap.
One proposal that I'm particularly concerned about relates to parking charges at country and heritage parks. Local sites like the James Hamilton Heritage Park in East Kilbride exist for our health and wellbeing. By charging for parking at parks like this, motorists will be forced to park elsewhere, possibly in residential areas, or people might be put off coming altogether.
Other suggestions relating to our roads and how places look are a real cause for concern. The Scottish Government is forcing our councils to make tough decisions."
