Graham Simpson MSP visited Tesco’s Food Collection in East Kilbride to see first-hand the generosity of customers to support vulnerable members of the local community.
The Central Scotland MSP helped outside the store in St Leonards where shoppers donated to help the Trussell Trust and FareShare.
He said: “The local store works all year round, not just at Christmas, to help local causes and even has its own community champion, Elaine O’Donnell. Customers were very generous in giving produce to food banks and it was a pleasure to help out.”
Tesco were able to provide more than 3.4 million meals to people in need nationwide during the last year’s collection. Since their first Tesco Food Collection in December 2012, they have donated 49 million meals to help FareShare and The Trussell Trust support people in need across the UK and over 450,000 meals across Scotland.
The cross-party support received from elected representatives during the last Tesco Food Collection helped to highlight this important community work in local media.
