Graham Simpson MSP visited the 1st Shotts Girls Brigade to congratulate them on securing an award from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust.
The Girls’ Brigade in Scotland (GBS) is a lively, vibrant organisation for girls and young women. The organisation is open to girls of all faiths or none and operate throughout Scotland with 230 companies serving over 9,000 members in the communities of Scotland.
Graham Simpson said “I would like thank the 1st Shotts Girls' Brigade for allowing me to visit and see the great work they do. I congratulated them on being awarded just over £600 from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust Scotland which they have used to buy two ipads.
“I saw these being put to good use as some of the older girls, Brigaders, put together a Powerpoint for a coffee evening they have planned to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support Scotland on the 28th November. The younger girls, Explorers, were painting aprons and I even got to have a go drawing their mascot - a bee. As the Scottish Parliament species champion for the Bilberry Bumblebee that suited me just fine. The girls are going to finish it off and send it to me.
“It is the 125th anniversary of the Girls Brigade and this group is busier than ever. The work that group does is a huge asset to the local community and I hope to be invited back in the future to see how the they are getting on”.
