Graham Simpson MSP has praised the work done by a Motherwell charity after a recent visit to its premises.
Graham heard from CEO Anita Boyle how LAMH Recycle has been awarded £100,000 by the Big Lottery Fund to assist with their new project Changes for the Better.
The project aims to help empower disadvantaged people living in the local community who are experiencing mental health issues, long-term health conditions, loneliness or social isolation.
Anita is aiming to mentor 70 participants over a two-year period, teaching community-based IT waste recycling activities, with a focus on mental health and well-being.
Mr Simpson said: “I was delighted to get along and see the great work being done by Anita and her team of staff and volunteers at LAMH Recycle.
“LAMH Recycle offers a variety of learning opportunities in an encouraging environment. The Big Lottery Fund cash will help deliver its new project - Changes for the Better.
“Business Development Manager Barbara Boertien explained how the two-year plan will see the charity support marginalised people in the local community, providing practical activities that will address the barriers they face in society.
“I saw this first hand as Barbara showed me around the factory where various sessions were in action. These projects are aimed at giving participants new skills using old IT equipment, ranging from recycling to breaking down the machines, as well as learning how to repair them.
“I spoke to one member of staff who is teaching IT and computer skills to LAMH students, many of whom have gone on to find work in the IT sector.
“The money from the Big Lottery Fund will ensure more people have a chance to reach their true potential under Anita and her team’s expert guidance.”
Note: LAMH Recycle Ltd (LAMH) has been awarded a grant of £100,000 to support adults who are feeling isolated to gain new skills and improve their health and well-being from its community-based recycling facility in Motherwell.
Based in the heart of Lanarkshire, LAMH provides training, volunteering and employment opportunities within a supportive work environment for people facing barriers to employment. LAMH provides inclusive and meaningful opportunities for people to learn new skills and improve their chances of finding paid work in the future.
