Graham Simpson MSP visited A.C.Whyte’s tower block development in Port Glasgow as part of investigations into building standards in Scotland.
The Scottish Conservatives are supporting the improvement of building regulations in Scotland and all of the recommendations within the Local Government and Communities Committee’s report. Our MSPs have been proactive in putting forward recommendations within this report to strengthen building regulations in Scotland.
The inspection of high rise developments and testing of building materials should be extensive to ensure that they improve Scotland’s fire safety standards.
Mr Simpson said “Keeping homes warm and cladding are big topics at the moment. The Local Government and Communities Committee, which I sit on, has been looking at both and will be on an ongoing basis.
“I was keen to see work that had been done some time ago to see how it had fared.
“A.C. Whyte carried out the work on the tower blocks in Port Glasgow 10 years ago and have recently been nominated for an INCA Heritage Award for the project. The blocks look as good today as they did back when they were first refurbished and it is reflective of the pride that they take in their developments.
“The important thing is that people end up saving on their fuel bills but their homes look better too”.
