Graham Simpson MSP welcomed the news that over half a mile of the A726 between the Righead and Murray roundabouts will be resurfaced later this month.
Works will take place over four nights (8 pm to 6 am) from Monday 21st to Thursday 24th May at a cost of £172k on the eastbound project.
This is a follow up to last year’s Queensway westbound resurfacing. Preparatory works are required ahead of these works during overnight lane closures.
Mr Simpson said “This stretch of the A726 is one of the busiest in the town and is showing signs of wear and tear.
“I am sure everyone will welcome the news that Scotland TranServ has confirmed the work will take place later this month to resurface the large stretch between the Righead and Murray roundabouts.
“With the planned work being carried out overnight for four days, disruption should be kept to a minimum for commuters.”
Alan Murray, Scotland TranServ’s Principal Design Engineer said “We’ve worked closely with local authorities and key stakeholders to carefully plan these works to reduce the impact on commuters and shoppers in and around East Kilbride.
“Planning around other major utility projects in the area, we have scheduled closures for overnight only. Traffic management will only be installed at night once traffic levels are sufficiently low and lifted first thing before the morning rush hour begins.
“The Queensway is a busy local artery and we want to keep the town flowing while maximising the efficiency of the works.”
“Signed local diversions will be in place throughout the works, with special arrangements made for emergency service vehicles.
