Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP for Central Scotland, Graham Simpson, has strongly welcomed the “green light” given by the UK Government to bids submitted by North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire councils to the Shared Prosperity Fund.
The UK Government have confirmed that all bids will be given the go-ahead, as part of a £212 million investment in Scotland through the fund.
North Lanarkshire Council will receive £13,871,047 and South Lanarkshire Council will receive £12,221,881 thanks to the UK Government.
The Shared Prosperity Fund, part of the levelling-up agenda, focuses on three key area: local community facilities, helping businesses develop and improving people’s skills.
The millions being awarded to the two local authorities covers a funding period until March 2025.
Mr Simpson says this is another example of the UK Government delivering for people and communities in Lanarkshire.
He added that the announcement comes at a crucial time due to the economic challenges facing residents in the area.
Central Scotland MSP, Graham Simpson said: “The approval of these bids that were submitted by North and South Lanarkshire councils is hugely positive news.
“It is just the latest example of the UK Government delivering tangible benefits for people and communities in the region.
“This fund will deliver to those who need it most, including businesses who are going through a tough time and to improve people’s skillset.
“I will be working closely with Conservative councillor colleagues to ensure this funding is delivered to organisations and individuals who require it now the green light has been given by the UK Government.”
