Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP for Central Scotland, Graham Simpson, has urged the SNP to step up and help NHS Lanarkshire reduce their A&E waiting times.
Mr Simpson’s call comes after only 57.2% of patients across NHS Lanarkshire were seen within the SNP’s target time of four hours during the month of March.
The SNP’s own target is for 95% of patients to be seen at A&E within four hours. At University Hospital Hairmyres, just 52.3% were seen within this standard.
During Health Questions at the Scottish Parliament, Mr Simpson asked the Cabinet Secretary for NHS Recovery, Health and Social Care - Michael Matheson - how he’s helping NHS Lanarkshire reach this national target.
Mr Simpson, who was recently treated at Hairmyres A&E, says he had a good experience and was out within two hours, but not everybody is being seen as quickly.
He says these worrying statistics are further evidence of the SNPs complacency and failure to deliver the resources that NHS Lanarkshire require.
He added that the SNP’s flimsy NHS Recovery Plan simply isn’t cutting it and heroic frontline staff in the region are being let down by the Government’s continued failures.
MSP for Central Scotland, Graham Simpson said: “I was recently treated by staff at Hairmyres A&E department and patched up within a couple of hours, but not everybody in Lanarkshire is being seen as quickly.
“The Health Secretary claims things are improving but these worrying statistics are further evidence of the SNP’s complacency and failure to deliver the necessary resources NHS Lanarkshire needs.
“Their flimsy NHS Recovery Plan simply isn’t cutting it and heroic frontline staff in the region are being let down by this Government’s continued failures.
“The Scottish Government haven’t reacted quickly enough and waiting times in Lanarkshire could get even worse. They must get on top of the situation once and for all.”
