Graham Simpson MSP visited a local sports club after it was awarded money to upgrade its facilities and was left bowled over.
Wishaw Bowling Club was awarded a £12,000 grant by Viridor which has been used to purchase a new lawn mower and fit new flooring in the club house.
Central Scotland MSP Graham Simpson was even given the opportunity to show off his own bowling skills –although he was quickly shown up by club youngster Daniel Gillespie. Shown around the grounds by members of the club committee, the MSP was impressed with the quality of the ground keeping and praised the hard work that had obviously gone into making this an attractive sporting ground.
The MSP said “I was extremely impressed with the bowling green and grounds at Wishaw Bowling Club. The number of hours needed to keep it looking so smart and professional must be staggering.
“I was honoured to be given a quick lesson on bowling technique and it’s fair to say I have a long way to go before I could keep up with the players at the club. Wishaw Bowling Club is a gem in the town and I would urge any locals to come along and see the club and join up for a mixture of social fun and physical exercise.”
Club Greens Ranger Pat O'Connor said "We were very happy to welcome Graham Simpson to Wishaw Bowling Club. Our committee has worked hard to secure funding to improve the club's facilities and grounds. It is fantastic that our hard work has been recognised by a Member of the Scottish Parliament.”
