I'm delighted to be named as the new Convener of the Delegated Powers and Law Reform Committee that will scrutinise the Brexit legislation for Scotland.
It is a privilege to be leading the committee, especially at a time when people are waiting to see what impact Brexit will have not only on Scotland but the UK as well.
I believe we are entering a historic time for Scotland as the process to exit the EU gets fully under way. We will carefully study the European Union Withdrawal Bill in the coming months.
The committee has a big job on its hands but we are up to the task and will have tough questions for both the Scottish and UK governments.
It is vitally important that we give due diligence and forensic examination on all the legislation that will be laid before the parliament in regards to Brexit.
The committee is not all about Brexit, there are many other pieces of legislations that the Scottish Government wants to pass into law. It’s is only right and proper that they are examined thoroughly by an independent cross party committee.”
As well as leading the Delegated Powers and Law Reform Committee, I will also continue in my role on the Local Government and Communities Committee which will be focusing on building regulations, high hedges and disabled parking issue over the next session of parliament.
As the Scottish Parliament returns after recess it is going to be a very busy time. There is much to do, but I’m looking forward getting started.
